SharePoint Designers

All about Branding & Customizations in SharePoint

The guy who started several of our sites has departed and now I'm trying to figure out how to get Sharepoint Designer 2010 to connect to our website running on a local VM, which is running the 2010 component of Sharepoint, so it's not an old version compatibility problem.

The problem I have is that the software connects ok, it gives me the site name, the Share Point version number, the groups associated with accessing the site (I'm in the Admin group) and I can't pull any pages down from the site. I can't edit anything, I can't DO anything. I have no formal training on the site, but I'm fairly good at learning on my own, but the problem is that i can't even get the site to LOAD nevermind discover the features and abilities. I've also tried loading the site up using the browser and adding /_admin to the address bar, nothing.

Also, if I click on links within SPD 2010 to try and open a page or something, I almost always get the error:

The Server Could Not Complete your request. and if I click details, I get "soap:ServerServer was unable to process request. ---> Value does not fall within the expected range."

I'm way in over my head here. I have no idea where to check. Right now the site operates just fine, so we don't need to make any urgent changes to it, but this is aggravating as all feck. Does anyone have any thoughts?

Hello,

I guess that you already confirmed that the settings for using SharePoint Designer is ok? You can change the settings for Sharepoint Designer in the Site Settings page or add this URL after the sitename  _layouts/SharePointDesignerSettings.aspx

Good luck!
